Substance Abuse and Prevention
Do you know whether your kids are living a healthy lifestyle? Are you concerned that they may be abusing drugs or other substances? Are you looking for information or statistics on substance abuse in your area? This page has links to resources that can help you answer these questions and become better informed about substance abuse and prevention.
You can begin by joining the National PTA which encourages families and community leaders to utilize the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids’ Parent Toolkit to help combat the drug epidemic in our communities.
If you would like to search for data on your own regarding substance abuse in your specific county, please click here: https://www.gaspsdata.net. The Georgia Strategic Prevention System (GASPS) data warehouse is an innovative online repository containing information on behavioral health issues such as Substance Abuse Prevention, its consequences, and related social indicators. The warehouse is a one stop shop for gathering state and county level data related to the behavioral health issues of Substance Abuse Prevention (Coming Soon Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Promotion specific data).
The GASPS data warehouse has been developed by the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities’ (DBHDD) Office of Behavioral Health Prevention and The University of Georgia Carl Vinson Institute of Government. DBHDD is the state agency that provides treatment and support services to people with behavioral health challenges and addictive diseases, and assists individuals who live with developmental disabilities.
The GASPS data warehouse contains traditional data reports and spread sheets, as well as data that is presented in what is commonly referred to as “data visualizations” (charts, graphs, and maps that provide visual pictures of the data).
